Health Science Studies Signature Experiences
Border Medicine Immersion
During the Border Medicine Immersion Experience, junior and senior interns will learn about border medicine and conducting community health research, as well as have the opportunity to shadow/observe clinicians in Eagle Pass, Texas. This unique internship experience blends (1) advocacy for public health with (2) clinical observation.
Research Techniques
During the Research Techniques Immersion Experience, junior and senior interns will learn lab-based research skills to explore research methods and participate in current research studies in the Mooney Lab for Exercise, Nutrition, and Biochemistry.
North Dallas Pre-Dental Summer Internship
During the North Dallas Pre-Dental Summer Internship, junior and senior interns will spend five weeks shadowing the "Who’s Who of Dentistry" in the North Dallas area. Students will rotate weekly through specialty areas that may include Endodontics, Family Dentistry, Pediatrics, Periodontics, Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery, and Orthodontics.
Study Abroad in Belize
The Health Science Studies Signature 10-day Study Abroad Experience in Belize occurs every winter-mester. Students work with in-country healthcare practitioners setting up field clinics in vulnerable communities. Students conduct house visits/patient interviews, perform medical screens, measure vitals, and collaborate with an interprofessional healthcare team.
Study Abroad in Costa Rica
The Health Science Studies Signature 10-day Study Abroad Experience in Costa Rica occurs every summer and winter. Students work with in-country healthcare practitioners setting up field clinics in vulnerable communities. Students conduct house visits/patient interviews, perform medical and physical therapy screens, measure vitals, and collaborate with an interprofessional healthcare team.
Direct Primary Care Immersion
Through the Health Science Studies Signature Direct Primary Care (DPC) Immersion Experience, interns will have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the business and direct patient care. Interns may assist with administrative tasks, learn about drawing and submitting lab work, and observing patient interactions centered around understanding the patient as a whole.
