Q&A with Ibrahim Algwaider, Baylor MSMS Student
Ibrahim will graduate from the Baylor University Master of Science in Medical Science (MSMS) program in May 2026 and will matriculate into Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fall 2026.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSMS program at Baylor?
I chose this program to provide clear, concrete proof of my readiness for the academic rigor expected in medical school. I wanted an environment that would test my ability to perform under sustained pressure while strengthening gaps in my academic foundation. As I evaluated the curriculum, I was drawn to how closely it reflected the pace, volume, and expectations of professional medical education. The high level of faculty involvement stood out, particularly the emphasis on mentorship and individualized guidance rather than passive instruction. That combination of rigor, structure, and faculty investment made this program the right setting for my growth as a student preparing for a medical career.
Please share one of the highlights of your experience in the MSMS program.
The strongest highlight of my experience in the MSMS program was the personal and academic growth I achieved. The program held me to a high standard that strengthened my discipline, resilience, and confidence. I was consistently challenged to perform at a professional level and grow beyond my previous limits. The relationships I developed with faculty and cohort members added depth and meaning to my experience. This growth extended beyond academics and influenced how I carry myself as a future physician.
What is one way that your Baylor MSMS education prepared you for your next step?
The program taught me how to critically evaluate my own performance and adapt during periods of transition. I learned how to respond to feedback with intention, identify gaps early, and refine my approach before those gaps became larger obstacles. Accountability was treated as a baseline expectation, not an exception, and that mindset reshaped how I approach growth. As I enter medical school, I carry confidence in my ability to take ownership of my performance, learn efficiently, and adjust under pressure.
What would you say to a prospective student considering the Baylor MSMS degree program?
This program requires discipline every single day, and that discipline is what ultimately determines your success. You will be challenged academically through fast paced learning and large volumes of material, closely reflecting the demands of medical school. At the same time, the program tests your character by pushing your work ethic, consistency, drive, and passion for medicine. If you commit fully and meet those expectations, you leave knowing you are capable of succeeding in demanding graduate and professional training.
What did it look like to build community and engage with your fellow students in this online program?
Building community in the MSMS program through my lens was through my notes, I would create notes on Google docs for each class and have detailed subsections of chapters. This became a central hub for everyone to go for review and created consistent interaction. It built our community because everyone felt so supported and involved, which led to the study and tutoring sessions. Being able to contribute, engage, and learn alongside my peers made me feel valued and included within the program.
How did your experience with the Baylor faculty enhance your educational experience?
My experience with the Baylor faculty deeply enhanced my education because of how genuinely involved and invested every professor was in student success. The faculty make the program as amazing as it is; Dr. Parizi-Robinson with her dedication/love for Anatomy, Dr. Dustin Fowler through his genuine passion for immunology played a major role in my success in microbiology, and Dr. Dragoo for his clear love for sports medicine and cardiopulmonary medicine. Theresa was the core of the program; consistently supportive/approachable, always available to answer questions, and guide students through any concern. Dr. Brewer’s leadership, encouragement, and genuine kindness created a sense of direction and motivation, and his presence alone made students feel supported and valued, reflecting the strength of the faculty as a whole.
