Cory Dungan, PhD
Assistant Professor
Dr. Cory Dungan joins Baylor University as Assistant Professor in Exercise Physiology from the University of Kentucky, where he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Muscle Biology and the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. Dr. Dungan received his PhD in Exercise and Nutrition Sciences from the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY. Dr. Dungan’s lab investigates the mechanisms regulating skeletal muscle mass, adaptation, and insulin sensitivity in various metabolic and physiologic conditions such as aging, cachexia, and obesity. He also has a strong interest in exercise-mediated cross-talk between skeletal muscle and the brain as a way to mitigate the effects of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Dungan has over 40 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Aging Cell, Function, and the Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia, and Muscle, and employs cell culture and genetic animal models to answer his research questions. Dr. Dungan is a firm believer in cultural and academic diversity, and has a passion for mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
